Armstrong, Independent Labour councillor, to reduce the hours of employees to 40 per week, with the object of absorbing more men at present unemployed. It was agreed, after a diesussion, that the matter be referred to a committee for report. Councillors were in general agreement that a shorter working week was coming, but probably not in the life of the present council. It was stated that the cost would be about £lO,OOO a year.
