COUNTERFEITING PLANT
POLICE RAID IN AUCKLAND DISCOVEKIES MABE IN HOUSE [ Per Press Association. I AUCKLAND, July 2. An elaborate counterfeiting plant a quantity of spurious haif-crowm and florins, and two air pistols, were found by a party of detectives whe cained nut a raid on a house in Orakei .Road, Kemuera, this morning. I'hrce means of access to the house were cohered by various members c< the patty, and entry was gained witu out difiic-illy. In the back part of the house two voung men were found in a room tearing close resemblance to a laboratory. One youth was allowed to leave, The police found on a stove a crucible containing molten metal. Other equipment in the room included a number of plaster of naris moulds, a quantity of metal and a blow l imp. Lying on" a bunch near was an air piste’ while a search disclosed about -I'. counterfeit half-crowns as well as some 30 si nr lar coins in an unfinished condition. A second air pistol was found in the kitchen. A search c*f the house was ma le by the detectives, and in the front room, between the mat tresses of a bed, they found about l<‘o counterfeit florins, which like some of the half-crowns were unfinished. All the <eoins. ns well as the complete plant, wore seized by the detectives and removed. While the search was in progress an Alsatian, which had been chained up. became 100.-e and made its wav into the house. A few minutes later neighbours, who had br.on taking a keen interest in the proceedings frorn’a distan-' 1 . saw the dog run from the house at full speed. closclv pursued by a dc-tective-scrgmint armed with a pitchfork.
