VARYING THE MONOTONY
AT BYRD’S ADVANCE CAMP Received June 29, 9.5 p.m. MONTREAL, June 28. A radio message from Little America states that Rear-Admiral Byrd celebrated the rounding out of the third month of isolation at th© Bolling weather base to-day with a radio conversation with the camp. He gave his customary “all’s well,” and told of some more plans for spring activities, and issued instructions to get ready to move by’ October. He admitted that the monotony of lifo in the small shack was becoming more wearying, and in an effort to bring freshness to the slowly-passing days ho is continually altering the routine. “I mislay my books for tho sake of surprise, and vary my daily physical exercises. Every day I try to invent some minor gadget to make things more convenient in tho shack. Yesterday, for instance, I started cutting bookshelves in the snow walls of the tunnels. Then there is cooking and the sewing machine, etc. I even tried singing to myself, but had to stop because it drove mo out of the cabin.”
