ATTITUDE TO WAR
TRADE UNION OPINION GENERAL STRIKE RULED OUT Received June 29, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, June 29. Leaders of all sections of Trade Union and Socialist movements at a special conference to define their attitude towards war, discarded the ideal of a general strike, chiefly on the ground that it was impossible to make it effective in Germany, Italy, Austria and other countries. »' The conference recognised that there tiay be circumstances in which the Government of Britain might be obliged to use military and naval forces to support the League of Nations in restraining an aggressor, and trged that efforts be directed toward ridding the %’orld of armed forces and lubstituting an international police force under authority of the League.
