MODERN WARFARE
BACTERIA AND GAS WICKHAM STEED DOCUMENTS SIR L HAMILTON’S COMMENT METHODS COMMON TO ALL {By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) Received June 29, 7.57 p.m. LONDON, June 29. General Sir lan Hamilton, in a letter in the Sketch, apropos the Wickham Steed documents, says: ‘‘lt is a bit thick to put it all on the Germans. Our people are still so unmilitary that they do not understand that the function of every European general staff is to prepare for war to the last bottle of poison. If war comes, it will be due to those endeavouring to convince the nations that their neighbours’ intentions are evil. A full realisation of modern warfare’s baby-killing tendencies is the best hope for ensuing peace.” Sinister German plans for aerial gas attacks on London and Paris are mentioned by Mr. H. Wickham Steed in the Nineteenth Century. The allegation sare based on secret documents claimed to have emanated from the German War Office, reaching Mr. Steed from various non-Jewish German ■ources. The documents have been examined by experts, who see no reason |o doubt the genuineness of at least •everal. It is alleged that since 1931 a department of the German War Office Milled “Air Gas Attack” has coducted experiments with the infection of cities, mainly by using air currents in underground railways.
