PARKING WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
The usual monthly meeting of the Parikino branch of the Women’s Institute was hold on Alonday. June 18, where Mrs. Alita presided over about 20 members. The meeting was opened in the usual waju after which the minutes were read and adopted, an the financial statement received. This being a Maori branch, the members were proud to welcome to the branch two European ladies, from whom they hope to learn much and in return we hope to teach much of our Maori arts and crafts. The sugiir-bag competition, which was the competition for the month c>f June, were won by: Miss Lucy Potaka (fire screen), Aliss Hine Ratana (peg bag) second, Airs. Tyson (shopping bag) third. Aliss AlcNeil gave a very interesting demonstration on making useful articles from old rubber tubes, and it was decided that the points competition for next month will be a shopping bag from rubber tubes.
Last month’s competition was a Alaori carrying basket (kete), and the successful members were: Airs. Hom Terei first, Airs. Wiki Ratana second, Mrs. Kura Potaka third. The National Anthem was sung at the closing of the meeting.
