BALLARAT CENTENARY

‘HOME-COMING’ CELEBRATIONS Even at this early stage of the forthcoming celebrations of the Centenary of Victoria, Australia-wide attention has been aroused. Perhaps no city, other than Ballarat, has so muteh contributed of its population to that of other centres, for from there went out the early pioneer miners to all part of the Dominion. And now Ballarat is calling them back for the Centenary, and it is desired through these columns to invite all those intending to visit Victoria during the Centenary period of 193435 to Ballarat, for during this year there has been prepared a wonderfully attractive programme. Following the South Street Eisteddfod, now in its fortieth year, a feature of which will be the Centenary Inter-State Band Contest at which, in all probability, English Bands will compete, there will be the Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Centenary Show, and at either one or the other of these Prince Henry will be present. The Aerial Derby, in all prize-seekers in the great flight from England will take part, will be another big feature. And, of course, there will be many other attractions. In the 1935 section there i to be the greatest home-coming Ballarat has ever seen—and it is noted for such—the Centenary Fire Brigades’ Demonstration, a monster Carnival and Pageant, a huge Regatta with crews from every State competing, the Centenary Raves on the famous Dowling Forest course which was established long before Flemington was thought of, and so on.
