NAVAL DISCUSSIONS
BRITAIN AND UNITED STATES PRELUDE TO CONFERENCE QUESTIONS IN THE COMMONS ( British Official Wireless. ) RUGBY. June 27. In connection with the bilateral conversations initiated by the British Government between the «chief naval Powers foi a preliminary exchange of views in preparation for next year’s Naval Conference a full meeting was hold to-dav at the Prime Minister’s rooms in ire House of Commons between the British and United States representatives. The Prime Minister was accompan-cd by Mr Stanley Baldwin. Sir John Simon, S’r Bolton Eyres Monsell, Vice-Admiral Little, and Mr IL L. Craigie. The United States representatives were thc Ambassador (Mr Hobart Bingham), Mr Norman Davies, RearAdmiral Leigh, and Mr T. Atherton. Further meetings will be held, but the date for the continuation of the discussions was not fixed. Mr Stanley Baldwin, replying to a request in the House of Commons for a statement on the general position, said that he was not prepared to give any information as to the course, of the discussions, which were •confidential. He said that the Governments of Frnce, Japan, and Italy had also agreed to participate in bilateral conversations, and added that a decision had not yet been taken as to where the 1985 conference would be held. The question also asked whether definite demands for parity had been put forward by the Japanese Government, and Mr Baldwin replied that no such demand had been received.
