A LABOUR DEPUTATION. THE GOVERNMENT’S REPLY. Received June 28, 1.25 a.m. LONDON. July 27. Arising out of the recent Olympia disturbances, a deputation from the National Joint Council representing all sections of the Labour movement, warned Sir J. Gilmour that unless the Government took steps to protect citizens from Black Shirt assaults, the Labour would adopt its own measures to safeguard itself. Sir J. Gilmour declared that the Government would not tolerate disorder from any quarter, and was reviewing the whole legal position regarding the preservation of order at public-meet-ings, also whether it was legal to form uniformed bands and equip and drill them as a political fore*.
