Slight, the former seerctarv of the nursing division, was farewelled by the Marton members of the order. The president (Mr A. Way), the divisional surgeon (Dr. R. A. Church), and representatives of the auxiliary, were also present. Prior to making a presentation to Miss Slight, Mr Way handed the secretary of the ambulance division a cheque of £1 Is, being a donation from the Automobile Association, Wanganui. The president stated that they had gathered to bid farewell to one of their popular members, who was leaving them to attain greater success in the nursing profession. Her work as secretary of the nursnng division had been a tedious one, but she had worked hard and had the pleasure of seeing the members all qualify for the medallion. Miss Slight would bo greatly missed by the nurses, but they were pleased to hear that she haa at last had the chance she had longed for. Un behalf of the ambulance, nurses, and cadets he had great pleasure in handing her a small token of their esteem and the good wishes of all members went with it. Mr Way then handed Miss Slight an inscribed fountain pen. Dr. Church, in addressing the meeting, said that during his time in Marton he had constantly seen their guest’s work and it was always capable, and of the best. He wished her top marks in all her examinations and his good wishes. Mr C. W. Bartram, superintendent of

the ambulance, spoke on behalf of the ambulance. He had not seen a great deal of Miss Slight but he did know that the nurses had a lot to thank her for. He hoped that some day she would be back among them all, wearing the red cape, and would perhaps take charge. He wished her to know she carried away the best wishes of all members. Mrs Hammond (lady superintendent) said she also bad a lot to thank Miss Slight for as she had not always been able to attend the parades, but her splendid secretary had always been there to take charge in her absence. She trusted she would enjoy her stay in Wellington and would •carry away many happy memories of Marton. Mr P. IL Turnbull, secretary of the ambulance division, remarked that they all knew that a secretary’s job was a thankless one and he wished to congratulate Miss Slight on the very line way in which she had carried out her duties. Wanganui had been more than satisfied with her work, and he wished her the best of luck in her new surroundings, and was sorry to lose such a keen fellow-secretary. Miss Slight, on rising to reply, was greeted with applause. She thanked the various speakers for all the nice things they had said about her, but after all it was no good joining such a splendid organisation unless one meant to give of one’s best. She had only done her duty after all and she hoped that, those members who were left would ‘carry on and do theirs. She hoped to be able to come hack some ■ lay in the near future and see the members of the Marton divisions.
