OBITUARY
MR. H. G. ELL. f Per Press AMortation. I CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. The death has occurred of Mr. Henry George Ell, aged 72, after a brief illness, following an operation in hospital. The late Air. Ell was a member of Parliament for Christchurch South, from 1905 till 1919, and was Postmas-ter-General in the MacKcnzie Alinistry in 1912. He was formerly a member of many public bodies, and was wellknown for his work in connection with the Port Hills’ scenic reserves and roads. Alany rest houses are a monument to his public-minded activity, to which he devoted virtually all his time and enthusiasm in later years. He planned and directed the beautiful Summit Road from Godley Head right round the harbour, virtually to Afount Herbert, pushing ahead tenaciously despite the opposition and controversy with which the work was completed.
