INDIGENT EX-SOLDIERS
WELLINGTON. June 27. Reference to the question of the burial of indigent ex-soldiers was made in the report presented at the N.Z.R.S.A. conference on Tuesday. 4 4 As the result of representations it has now been definitely arranged that, in the event of the death of a destitute ex-soldier, application for burial should be made promptly to the nearest Registrar of Pensions,” stated the report. ‘‘lndigence , must be satisfactorily proved to the registrar; in the case of a married N.Z.E.F. soldier the proved indigence of the wife is suflirient. but in the case of overseas soldiers evidence of indigence of the wife and near relative must also be presented. Therefore, where indigence is proved, in every instance there is absolutely no need for an ex-service man to be buried as a pauper. ’ ’ , i
