Profitable to His Connections. Good money was won oxer Tavern Knight’s recent success at Sydney. He had been in Australia only three weeks and as his trainer had not allowed him to do any of the sensational trials of which he is capable, he opened at good odds when he was produced in the first division of the Flying Handicap at Victoria Park. His connections’ commissioners soon set to work and the price rapidly receded until he started equal favourite with Poponaise. He did not commence well, and when at the half-mile he had only one horse behind him his prospects did not look bright. Desperately ridden in the .straight, Tavern Knight flashed up at the finish to beat Kale Moti by half a . head It was a fine performance on • Tavern Knight's part, and properly placed he should win again. Souchong’s Spell. Souchong has .finished racing for the reason and will consequently be taken out of work and rested on the property of his owner-breeder, Mr P. F. Wall, at Hatuma, Haxvke’s Bay, where relatives of his, Hatuma and Recitation, are being pottered about. Dissertation, who foaled the last-named pair, is a half-sister by Demosthenes to Souchong, aud as both Hatuma and Recitation were sired by Arausio (Aire of Souchong) the relationship is weN defined. Royal Feast’s Effort. Royal Feast, the maiden xx ho hud Flamingo extended to hold him off at the Napier Park meeting on Saturday, was making his first appearance in a race, and the form is not likely to be overlooked when he next steps out. The trial company at Trentham may be too good for him yet, but after the Wellington meeting he should be one worth following. Royal Feast is a three-year-old bay gelding by Mercian King (the -sire of Foreign Queen) and his dam is the Boniform mare Morning Gift, whom the former Trentham trainer raced for a time for a win and some minor placing?. Morning Gift was a daughter of the King's Guest mare Morganatic (the dam of Disrank and Fitzquex), and it is thus seen how Royal Feast obtained his name. Royal Feast was bred by Mr. F. B. O’Donnell, from whom he was bought by Mr. H Jones, who is noxv racing him in partnership with Mr. G. C.-Sxvinerd. Egmont Point-to-Point.
