DISPUTE SETTLED

LYTTLETON WATERSIDERS. [ Per Press Association. J CHKISTCHURCH, June 28. The dispute between the Watersidf Workers’ Union and the employers o: wharf labour, whieh has caused a holdup of shipping at Lyttelton since Friday, was settled to-day, and it is expected that conditions will be normal to-morrow. Tho full terms of the settlement have not been disclosed. It is known that it was agreed that labour other than that previously offering should be put on to work tho”Wingatui, and this was the main point at issue. The union held that tho men discharged on Friday for allegedly going slow should be put on tho Wingatui, and no others offered. Hence the deadlock. Labour was engaged. and the Wingatui was worked this afternoon, but all other vessels In port remained idle. It was also announced by representatives of both parties, that’ calls would be made to-morrow for labour for all ships, and that labour would be supplied. Mr. W. H. G. Bennett, secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Employers’ Federation, arrived from Wellington this morning and attended a meeting of representatives of the shipping companies and Railway Department. Tho union also held a meeting, and several conferences were held between representatives of tho two parties. In this way the settlement was reached.
