GOLF During the week-end qualifying rounds were played on the Waverley <rolf links. A medal round was won by F. Train, 97 (26) 71. The scores were as follows:—H. Cowdall 88. D. Craig 89, J. J. It is pleasing to note the renewed enthusiasm which the qualifying rounds have brought to the ciub. Ihe fairways at present ar« in splendid condition and the greens are undoubtedly improving with the extra play whi’ch is taking place. Another large attendance is expected to-day, when the ladies are holding an all-day tournament. During the week the ladies’ committee met to make arrangements for the supper and decorations for the golf ball which is to take place on July 6. The energetic committee is leaving no stone unturned to make the Waverley golf ball a huge success as it has alwavs been in the past.

PERSONAL. Mrs. W. Oliver entertained a la rue number of her friends and relations on Friday evening last, at a social evening and dance at her residence at Kohi. beT honoured guest of the evening was her mother, Mrs. Armstrong, who was celebrating her 70th birthday and who. during the evening, received manv congratulations and presents from those present. One pleasing little ceremony was the presentation of a beautiful bouquet by her twin god-daughters. On the supper table was a large birthday cake which was made and decorated by Sirs. C. Oliver. A very pleasant time was spent bv all. games, cards and danVing being carried on till the small hours of the morning. The guests were: —Mrs. Armstrong (New Plymouth), Mr. and Mrs. E.
