WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The third birthday of the Women s Institute was held in the hall ou Wednesday evening, when there wai present a large gathering of local residents and visitors from surrounding districts. The hall had been artisticatty decorated with the institute emblems, Iceland poppies and silver birch Bnd the colours, orange, green black and white. Shortly before thy adjournment for •upper the handsome birthday cake, whi* h had been made and iced by Mrs. E. H. Haythorne. was wheeled in on a dinner waggon, after which the three candies wtic illuminated by the youngest member. Miss Gladys Bielski and then the cake was cut by the eldest member. Mrs. E. W. Pemberton. Some very line items were rendered by several members of the institute during the first half of the programme. These comprised elocutionary items by Mesdames W. T. Beard and F. E. Bielski. Mrs. Hewison very ably rendered a humorous song in character. Another very pleasing item in character was the singing of ‘‘The Three Old Maids of Lee/’ by Mesdames Fraser, Jowell and Mrs D. Collie. Mrs. Ryan sang two songs in her usual delightful manner. The final items on the programme was a playette entitled “The Family Group,” which was most creditably staged, the characters being: Grandma, Mrs. F. Bielski; Emily, Miss A. Boshier; Father, Miss E. Dahl; Aunt Maria, Miss B. Gibbin; Edc, Miss T. L. Kreger and the photographer, Mrs. J. H. Thompson. During the evening fhe president, Mrs. R. H. H. Guthrie, extended a welcome to all those present and also presented the trophies to the winners of various competitions during the year. The winners of the most points in the monthly competitions were Mrs. McMillan, Mrs. P. Reilly 2, Mrs. C. Reilly 3. Miss L. Reilly won the potato-growing compe|aon with 631 b. A guessing competition held during the evening was won by Mrs. J. Fraser. Mrs. E. Deihl and Mr. E. H. Haythorne iron the lucky Gay Gordons. During the evening music was supplied for dancing by Mr. J.
