A DANGER TO FORESTS
DEMANDS OF WOOD PULP HAWKE’S BAY RESOLUTION [Per Press Association.) HASTINGS, June 25. Th c danger of New Zealand timber resources being used for paper puff was pointed out to the annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society this morning by Mrs. W. A. Tod. Members endorsed ’the following motion moved by him:— “That it be recommended to the incoming committee to inquire of the Government what policy it pursues in the restriction jn the cutting and exporting of our timbers ana also the sale of forest lands.” Mr. Tod also recommended that the committee should discover whether any steps were being taken to plant areas in New Zealand forest tree*, and, if not, why not? “I do not think it right that this milling of timber should go into paperpulp,” said Mr. Tod. “The quantity ■we have in this country is limited and is fast disappearing.” He said that New Zealand trees and plants were among the most beautiful in the world and iho society should escourage their plantation.
