Consternation was caused in Goa, the capital of the Portuguese possession of the same nam.e, on the western coast of India, where thieves rifled the world-famous ancient church of Bom Jesus, containing the body of Saint Francis Xavier, “Apostle of tho Indies,and removed valuables worth many thousands of pounds. A cask containing the Saint’s remains, which is studded with precious stones, was not touched, but a museum filled with priceless offerings to the Saint was stripped of diadems, vhalices and crowns studded with precious stones.
