WIMER RACE MEETING

ATTRACTIVE ENSEMBLES. Alany visitors flocked to the Wanganui racecourse on Saturday for the second day of the Jockey Club’s winter meeting. There was an air of cheeriness and brightness, the day war fine and the dressing smart. Tweed suits, two-piece ensembles, beautifully tailored coats of boucle cloth, corded and knoppe cloth with large fur collars, and fur coats were a popular choice. Hats were small, some tip-tilted, some with jaunty peaks, others in helmet and cossock shapes; berets drooping to one side, while the close fitting turbans and folded velvet and draped cloche shapes were much in evidence. Blouses toned with the costumes and colour was added with a bright scarf. Brown, in all shades from light golden to the darkest hue, was greatly favoured, but the new berry-toned green? and blues were also popular.
