BOXING CONTESTS
TWO AT INVERCARGILL ( Per Pres** Association. 1 INVERCARGILL, May 9. Two professional boxing contests of ten three-minute rounds were staged in the Civic Theatre i>y me Southland Boxing Association this evening, there being a very large attendance. In the heavyweight contest Maurice Strickland (12.10), of Wellington), defeated Vai Luttrell (12.6), of Hastings, on a technical knock-out in the tenth round after the latter had been down for the count of nine. The light-heavyweight bout between Ray Nicol (12.2), of Ohai, and Harry Lister (11.10), of Greymouth, was won by Nicol on points, the winner leading practically all the way. It was the third meeting of the pair, Nicol having won each time.
