NAMBUCCA ASHORE

DANGEROUS POSITION.

CAPTAIN AND CREW TAKE to BOAT. SYDNEY, May 8. The coastal steamer Nambucca, 415 tons, is ashore in a dangerous position at the entrance of the Nambucca River. The crew of twelve is aboard. After four rocket lines failed to reach the ship from the breakwater, the rescue efforts were abandoned until the morning. Later the captain and crew of the Nambucca were ordered ashore, and have taken to an open boat. The vessel is leaking badly, and the seas are rising. It is hoped that the strong wind will swing the Nambucca into the ypen channel. CREW REACH SHORE. STILL HOPE FOR VESSEL. Received Mav 8. 11.5 p.m. SYDNEY, May 8. The captain and crew reached the shore by means of a line stretching from rhe ship’s bows to the shore, and also with the aid of the ship’s boat. There is still hope nf saving the vessel.
