The girl guides have a way with greaseproof paper that should appeal to any hiker. Before commencing operations, light a fairly large fire and make your preparations while it is burning down into the necessary ashes. Next take a piece of greaseproof and a piece of brown paper (the size will depend ou the quantity of food to be cooked) and wet both pieces in water. Now wrapyour meat or whatever you are desirous of cooking in the greaseproof and then in the brown paper; scrape away the fire, put in the parcel, and cover with hot ashes. By the time the outside paper is burnt off the food will be cooked to a turn, and the package is hooked out with a stick and carefully unwrapped. Following are some of the things that could be successfully cooked in this way: Sausages and bacon (particularly nice), chops, baked tomatoes, baked apple, tomato, egg and fish. Once the idea is picked up the ingenious hiker will experiment for herself and invent her own dishes.
