RANGE FINDING DEVICE USE BY BRITISH FLEET LONDON. March The British Fleet is being equipped with the “predictor,” a new rangefinding device which increases by 500 per cent the ratio of effective shots. Hitherto only about tutee per cent, of shots fired took effect. The new appliance makes 15 per cent, practically certain. In target practice firing at an object a mile away at a moving rate of .190 miles an hour, 29 per cent of hits was recorded. Tho “predictor,” which is operated by six mon, is a kind of calculating machine for determining exactly the height and speed of a flying object. The right to utilise the patents has already been acquired by the United States and other Governments.
