WANGANUI SAVAGE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. THE OLD DAYS RECALLED. On Saturday night the Wanganui Savage Club held its annual meeting and the attendance and keenness indicated that there is another year of progress ahead. A feature of the meeting was the unanimous decision of the eiub to Jink itself with the original activities of Savagery in Wanganui, which began in 1894. Mr. E. H. Hatherly, one of the foundation members, was present, and in reminiscent vein traced the club’s early days. In token of appreciation of the first activities of Savagery in Wanganui the seven Jiving foundation members were made, associate members of Ihe present organisation. Election ot' Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year, resulted as follows: —Ariki, Dr. G. J. Adams (re-elected); Rangitira, Mr. T. L. Sperring; tohunga, Savage F. H. Wilkie; kaitiaki, Savage Kenneth Armstrong; toa, Savage R. D. Smart; koniiti, Savages O. Allen, J. Goss, A. J. Masson, A. J. Pritchard and W. J. Stone; honorary musical director, Savage W. Hutchens; honorary accompanist, Savage A. J. Sutcliffe; assistant, Savage T. Guntrip. With minor alterations the ariki’s annual report was adopted ami ihe • i.ptement of accounts and balancesheet were dealt with similarly. The ariki outlined in detail the programme proposed for the ensuing year, an important portion of which will be to encourage the serious side of Savagery in the shape of holding fortnightly gathering, other than the knei'os, at which papers on topical subjects will be road. Harriers Enjoy Run. Though the Wanganui Harrier Club will not open the 1934 season as yet, an unofficial run was hold on Saturday afternoon in perfect weather, some forty runners participating. The course was over three miles at Aramoho, and the enthusiasm displayed by new and old members is held to bo an indication that a successful season is ahead for harrierism in Wanganui. Golf at Castlecliff The largest crowd of golfers seen at Castlecliff gathered on Saturday for the opening of the Castlecliff Golf Club’s new course, Cornfoot Park. Many visitors from other clubs also attended, being welcomed by Mr R. K. Dawson, president of the club, who stated that thirteen holes were ready for play and the committee hoped to have the full vourse completed before the winter season. Acknowledgment of fht' welcome was made by Messis G. S. Gordon (president of the Wanganui Golf Club) and A. Elliot (president of the Scofield Golf Club).
