BILLIARDS
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POSITION OF DAVIS. NO GUARANTEE FROM LINDRUM. Received April 7, 7.5 p.m. LONDON, April 6. Davis denies the Melbourne Press cable stating that he is going to Australia on May 5 to play in the world’s billiards championship. He states that he has not made definite arrangements to go to Australia and is still uncertain whether he is going at all, as he has still not obtained any concrete or tangible guarantees or a suggested programme. Hence the whole project is still in the air. “Lindruni says that he feels sure we will do well, but this is not definite enough to warrant incurring an expensive overseas trip,’’ continued Davis. “I cabled Lindrum several times. His replies never answer my questions. I do not feel like spending more money on cables. I do not know what course of action to take.’’ The Evening Standard says that despite the assistance of Mr. Linton and his cables Yo the Premier of Victoria, it looks as though the world championship, if ever played at all, will simply be between Lindrum and McConachy. Davis retained the professional snooker championship, defeating Newman by 24 games to 21.
