MAIN HIGHWAYS
RANGITIKEI COUNTY. REPORT BY ENGINEER. At the Rangitikei County Council on Friday, Mr. S. A. R. Alair reported as follows: Auckland-Wellington Alain Highway. —Fair progress has been made with reconstruction and metalling on Tura-kina-Bulls Road between Um. 17chs. and Dalvey Hill. The unexpected rain just before Easter caught the contractor with a cutting denuded of metal, so traffic had to be diverted via Alarton for a few days. The formation on Dalvey Hill is now almost completed, and metalling is in full swing. Contractor for Alakirikiri bridge has all concrete in the foundations to above the water level, and is pushing on well with the abutment piers. Tenders have been invited for the reconstruction and metalling of the two remaining gaps between Union Road and Bulls. It is hoped to have all construction and metalling completed so as to connect up the surfacing next summer. Bulls-Te Kuiti Alain Highway.—The contractors have completed the Afaungaraupi concrete bridge. The construction of the approaches is being pushed on while good weather obtains. The contractor has the Teraketi concrete culvert. The old bridge has been removed and the old creek bed filled up. By the end of the week the
