In the Supreme Court His Honour, Mr. Justice Ostler this morning sentenced Julie Alay Ruddlesden to two years’ hard labour for using an instrument illegally. His Honour commented on the fact of the jury recommending leniency. He was always anxious to go as far as he could without sacrificing the public interest to give effect to such recommendation. Personally he did not see any reason for such recommendation. Prisoner had been found gunlty of a serious offence. It was serious because the practice was dangerous, especially in the hands of ignorant people. There was no doubt that prisoner was making a living out of the practice and knew that there was a risk attached to it. In public interest he could not let the recommendation go forth that a person who could commit such an offence could get off lightly.
