RACING AT ROTORUA

THE ANNUAL MEETING PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY By ‘ * Kestrel. ’ 1 The racing “circuit’' in the Auckland province will be continued by the Rotorua Racing Club to-day and Monday, when the annual meeting will be held. Plenty of rain, it is reported, has fallen in the South Auckland district during the present week and the going at Rotorua should be in ex cellent order unless more rain has tome in the past couple of days. The course does not stand a great deal: two years ago the first day’s programme had to be postponed after the : first two races. The main even to-day is thi • Rotorua Cup, and on recent running ■ this contest looks like being fought out by the four at the head of the handicap: Gay Marigold, who looked a bit on the big side when beaten by j Master Brierly at Takapuna; Whakapara, whose Takapuna efforts were fair, but who won the week previously at Pukekohe; Trishna. the Thames Cup surprise winner; and Puriri Park a horse that a couple of years age won the Ohinemuri Cup and has sinc< been showing un in her races ovei six and seven furlongs. Outside this quartet the most likely appear to be ! Beryl Latour and Last Lap. j Quite a smart array of sprinters ligure in the Tourist Handicap. Paganelli never showed a glimpse of form last week at Matamata and his future does not hold out much promise, Bambury will be well suited here and if be onve hits the front he should stay there; this is his chance. Tradesman will appreciate the easy track but. he has not raced for some time. Marechai is said to be a doubtful runner, and they may travel too fasl for Limes. The Matamata winner Hampton Park, seems to be at his best now and is therefore a possibility, and the speedy King Ford will gc fast under the prevailing conditions. The best four may be Bambury, Hampton Park, King Ford and Tradesman. The remaining events have filled i very well, although last-minute deI feet ions may see the field dwindle somewhat. * Form horses for to-day are tht I following:— Pohutu High-Weight.—Dark Marble Don’t Lap, Crauchan. Waimangu Stakes. —Miss Lulu, Koya Lan, Springtime. Mokoia Handicap.—Chief Cook Limex, or Killadar. Rotorua Cup.—Gay Marigold, Wha kapara, Puriri Park. Ho| Springs Handicap.—KillaJat
