MAINTENANCE PROCEEDINGS A REHEARING REFUSED [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. David James Richards appeared before Mr. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court seeking a rehearing of the case in which he was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment unless he pays past and current maintenance in respect to his wife and child. The application for the rehearing was on the grounds of inability to pay maintcuMr. Watson, counsel for the wife, objected that a rehearing could bo granted only if fresh evidence had been discovered. Mr. Stilwell said there were no grounds in Richards’ present application on which tho Court could grant a rehearing. * “I’m swindled out of justice. That’s the position. It’s a shameful thing!’’ cried Richards. Mr. Watson asked for costs, saying that Richards had deliberately abused tho processes of both the Magistrate’s Court and the Supreme Court whenever he could. It cost him nothing for his frequent harassing litigation against his wife. At this stage Richards’ description of his wife was such that, the magistrate threatening to have him put in custody it he did not restrain his Two guineas costs were allowed Mr. Watson, and tho magistrate left the Bench to the accompaniment of “Justice! Justice! It’s a shame!” from Richards.
