M. and Mrs. H. E. B. Newton arc visiting Wellington. Mrs. D. Latham, Grey Street, is visiting Wellington. Mrs. Cheviot Bell, Lowry Bay, Wellington, will arrive in Wanganui tomorrow. Mr. and Mrs. P. Mrs. Barret, who has been visiting Mrs. Shapcott, Gonville, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. Dorothy Christie and Miss Marshall have returned to "Wanganui from Hawke’s Bay. Mrs. Douglas Wilson, Wicksteed Street, and family will spend Christmas with Mrs. E. B. Bristow, Karori. Mrs. Milne, Lower Hutt, and her small daughter will arrive to-day to spend Christmas in Wanganui. Madame Aileen Johns, of ‘‘Deepdone,” Auckland, is visiting Wanganui and is the guest of Mrs. C. H, Bowater, Gonville. - • • • Enjoyable Party A most enjoyable evening party was given by Mrs. C. H. Sewell, Gonville, recently, the occasion being tho birthday of Miss B. Sewell. The guests numbered about 25 and there were also present Mrs. Glenn, w'ho is 80 years of age, and Miss Glenn, who came up from Wellington for tho celebration. The early part of the evening was light enough for the guests to admire the well-laid-out garden, which had won a prize in the recent garden competition. Later, games and dancing were enjoyed and a thoroughly happy time was spent. Supper was served in th e billiard room, the table being prettily decorated and centred with an at-tractively-iced birthday cake. The party was held in the garden of Mrs. Leo Campion’s home, “Okirae,” and there were over 50 guests present, including settlers of th e valley. The bride-to-be was the recipient of numerous gifts of china and during afternoon Mrs. Leo Campion gave much pleasure by contributing several songs. A Christmas Party Last Saturday was a very happy day for the children of the Wanganui Orphanage. In the morning all were invited to meet Father Christmas at th 0 D.1.C., and each child received a gift. In tho afternoon they were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Trott, at the “Rendezvous,” where the tables were laden with good things. After a sumptuous meal, the children were taken upstairs where a lovely Christmas tree and more thrills awaited them. A delightful dance by Miss Swann’s pupils was thoroughly enjoyed and the Orphanage children also Pang several songs. A very happy afternoon concluded with the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” i
