Wellington, Tuesday, December 5, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Barometers arc still rather high in northern New Zealand, while a series of westerly depressions is passing to the southwards, a fairly intense one being located at present on the Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Winds: Brief temporary, southerly change probable tonight up the east coast of the South Island, otherwise northerly to westerly prevailing, strong to gale force south of New Plymouth and Napier, light to moderate but freshening thence northwards. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough south of Cape Egmont and Castle Point, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds of gale force in parts of the southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. Weather: Unsettled in western districts south of Kawhia and in the far south, with rain setting in. Elsewhere still mainly fair, but some isolated showers to-night on the cast coast of the South Island. Temperatures warm in most districts.
