COMBINED BANDS

GRAND CARNIVAL. NEXT WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, AND FRIDAY. The Bands’ Grand Carnival goes off with a bang on Wednesday night next at the Drill Hall, and again on Thursday aud Friday. Everything has ben done by the bands to mako this Grand Carnival one of the biggest celebrations of its kind yet held in Wanganui. The show will be good. No idle moments, fun, pleasure, and enjoyment for everybody. Two of the star items will be the great tug-o’-war contest, and tyre turning championship which will go with a swing. In addition, there will be side shows, and all sorts of attractions. Bring the kiddies and enjoy the fun. The Carnival “ball” will be set rolling at the Druids’ Hall on Tuesday night next with a grand plain and fancy dress dance. Be sure to be there. Good supper, good music, good dancing, fancy hats, streamers, balloons, and novelties in abundance. The citizens of Wanganui want their bands to go to the big contest in. February next. The necessary funds are to be raised by means of this great carnival, dance, queen carnival, art union, and general celebrations. Unity is the slogan. The three bands have united in one might effort, and are tirelessly working to achieve the desired objective. That the public of Wanganui will sponser the movement is assured. Unity of the citizens combined with unity of the bands is sure to produce the necessary result. All are earnestly asked to help the cause in some small way, and success is ahead.

H unable to attend the Carnival, buy tickets for the art union or your queen, and assist to swell the proceeds. Tickets cost only one penny, and sixpence each, and the art union prizes are high class. The first prize is a handsome oil painting. “The Farm Worker.” second “Freedom,” third “The Last Furrow,” all magnificent works of art.

In addition the committee have cash offers of £25 and £lO for first and second prizes, and a further offer is expected for the third prize. What a splendid Christmas box to win one of these big prizes. Be sure to buy a ticket in the art union, and support your queen.

Everything is now practically ready for the opening night, and events will he launched in quick succession. On Monday evening the thre bands will form themselves into working bees, and will assemble at the Drill Hall to transform the building into Carnival attire. There will be a busy time for all bands on Monday evening, and the transformation scene will make everybody smile with satisfaction. Once again the throe bands appeal to Wanganui citizens to assist the movements, give loyal support to the queens and aft unions, and roll up in large numbers to the Carnival at the Drill Hall on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next.*
