CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES A meeting of the Christmas Festivities Committee was held on, Friday night, the chairman of the Town Board (Mr R. A. Gordon) presiding over an attendance of 21. It was decided that the Wanganui Garrison Band be engaged for the afternoon of Saturday, December 16, and that a parade of decorated prams, bicycles and tricycles be held on that afternoon, and that prizes be awarded for the best fancy dress worn by children 16 years and under. The band will take-up a collection'in aid of the contest fund and the committee appointed were authorised to spend up to £5 on entertaining members of the band. An open-air concert has been arranged for the evening of Thursday Decern be. 21 and will be held in the Domain if weather permits. Mr Crichton is to be asked to arrange to ruu a bus from Rata to Hunter vi lie on Christmas Eve and the stationmaster has agreed to attach a tar to the 5 p.m. goods train to allow Mangaweka, Mangaonohe, and Ohingaiti children to return home if . they wish. He has agreed to do this on the 16th. also if traffic warrants it. The meeting was adjourned till Tuesday next at 7.30 p.m.
