MR. S. M. BRUCE
LONDON APPOINTMENT. MR. LYONS’ STATEMENT. CANBERRA, Oct. 13. Mr. J. A. Lyons (Prime Minister) in formally announcing Mr. S. Al. Bruce’s acceptance of the High Commissionership, said that Mr. Bruce was at all times free to make his own choice of appointments. Mr Bruce had intimated that he was prepared to serve Australia in any capacity, and had even concurred that there was much more important work to do in London than in the Commonwealth. The Ministry was fully seized by his distinguished services, both to Australia and the Empire, and the Ministry was anxious that he should continue the work ho had been doing in London, on which the conversations had been most frank and most friendly, but it was thought unde sirable to continue the office of Resident Minister indefinitely.
