Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, Oct. 13, 4 p.m. General .Situation.—A series of shallow westerly depressions continues to cross the south Tasman and southern New Zealand, but the last is likely to pass to-morrow, pressure having risen considerably over south-eastern Australia. Forecast. —Winds: Northerlies, moderate to strong generally, still reaching gale force in places, backing to west and later to south-west. Seas (New Zealand waters'): Bough south of Cape Egmont and offshore south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman: Moderate to strong winds backing to west and later south-west; seas moderate in the northern portion, elsewhere rough. Weather: Fair to fine in eastern districts, elsewhere cloudy to overcast. Scattered rain more general and rain likely during the week-end. Temperatures warm but becoming cooler to-morrow. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 7 hours 40 minutes. Bainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 64 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 46 deg. Fahr. Phases of the Moon. —September: Full moon, October 4: last quarter, October 12; new noon, October 19; first quarter, October 26.
