AUSTRALIAN PAPER'S CLAIM. EVIDENCE OF ANCESTRY. LONDON, July 17. The publication of a series of articles purporting to show that Herr Adolf Hitler is partly Jewish has been begun l»y the Oesterreicher Abendblatt, says the Vienna correspondent of The Times. The allegation will be supported by extracts from parish registers, and is the result of diligent research. It i.s stated that Hitler’s maternal grandmother. Johanna, was a daughter of Jakob Hitler, who left the ghetto of the Bohemian border town of Polna in 1833, and was baptised in Vienna. The burgomaster of Herr Hitler’s birthplace, Braunau, certifies that the Chancellor’s father changed his name from Schicklgruber to Hitler in 1877 in expectancy of a legacy from Adolf’s great aunt, Klara. The paper prints corroborative photographs of tlje ancestral home at Polna, of a page from the parish register, and of a Hebrew tombstone. The Abendblatt promises to publish the evidence of a Jewish relative ot Herr Hitler who is a small grocer in the Jewish quarter of Vienna. The Berlin newspaper Vossische Zeitnng, in contradicting the Abondblatt’s •inegations, cites a statement by a gene alogical scholar—Karl von Frank—that on both sides of his family, even further bark than his great-grandparents, i Herr Hitler’s ancestors were Austrian peasants.
