CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP. MANAGERS BUY BUSINESS. I Per Press Association. 1 NELSON, July 29. A change in ownership of Nelson’s oldest mercantile firm, Messrs. J. H. Cock and Co., established iu 1842, is announced, tbo business passing into the hands of Mr. E. 8. Johns, manager of the New Plymouth branch of the firm, Mr. B. C. Bobarfald, manager of the Wanganui branch, and Mr. F. H. Thomson, of the Nelson branch, who have acquired Air. H. C. Cock’s interest. in the business. Mr. Thomson becomes chairman of directors and also a director of the Anchor Shipping Foundry Company. All three new partners are old servants of the firm. At a valedictory gathering a presentation was made to Mr. H. C. Cock, and tributes paid to the cordial relations which had always existed between Mr. Cock and the staff. Good wishes were extended to Air, Cock for happiness in his retirement,' and associated with a presentation was Air. Frederick J. Johns, of Wellington, who joined the firm in .1879 in Mr. 11. C. Cock’s grandfather’s time. Air. Cock will retain his position of managing director of the Anchor Shipping Foundry Company.
