REDUCTION REFUSED
WAGES OF APPRENTICES THE COURT’S JUDGMENT [ Per Press Association. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, July 13. “It does not seem reasonable at a lime when the economic outlook is more favourable to make wage reductions that will operate for at least five years,” states the judgment of the Arbitration Court on the application by the employers in North Canterbury for a reduction in the rates of pay of apprentices to the carpentry and joinery trades. The Court refused the application, .stating that standard rates had already been reduced by 10 per cent, under the general order of May, 1931. It could not be said that the present rates, which commence at 13s 6d weekly, were 100 high.
