WINTER RACE MEETING

FASHIONS ON THE LAWN The first day of the winter meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club was held in brilliant sunshine and the attendance left nothing to be desired. Every toning in colour that is at present the fashion was to bo seen on tho lawn yesterday. One noticed thui furs, both cravats and stoles, were almost invariably worn with tailored costumes, though a gaily-coloured scar! was frequently chosen to add a touch of colour to a sombre suit worn with a matching hat. New shades of blue were seen, while the rich shades of burgundy, rust reds and scarlet lookc brilliant beside the soft browns and heather tweeds.

Tho new pineapple yellows, too, had their following and there were some very becoming shades of green. Among those present were:—Mrs. N. G. Armstrong, fawn tweed costume, fawn fur felt hat; Airs.
