ANNUAL BALL

STAFF OF WOOLWORTHS. The Elrick Tearoom presented a bright scene last evening when the members of the staff of Woolworths, Ltd., in association with friends, held their second annual ball. There was an attendance of about 200. The arrangements had been planned and carefully carried out by the following committee: —Mrs. ID. Brown, Misses E. Bullock, Z. Coppins, O. Coffey, Boyack, Messrs. H. Davis and R. E. Jenkins. The unqualified success of the evening was largely due to theoir untiring efforts during the past few weeks. Entertaining items during the evening included a clog dance by Maureen Dickson; an impersonation of Gracie Fields by Miss Zelda Watts, and a ballet, “Looking on the Bright Side,” bv Misses E. Longstaff, J. Williams, D. Herd, J. Rennie, B. Ball, A. Liley, V. Carter, E. Reid, J. White, J. Scanlon, Z. Longstaff, M. Mainwaring and N. Abraham. The music for dancing was supplied by the River City Syncopators’ Orchestra. The supper tables were set Bohiemian style and the large three-tiered birthday cake, with its two lighted candles and handsomely ornamented in red and pale gold, was cut by little Jean Scanlon. Mr. L. A. Williams, of the head office, came from Wellington to attend the' ball, and was entertained by Mr. J. W. Anderson, manager of the local branch. Among the those present were:—Mrs. D.
