PROVINCIAL CHAMPION MISS GAISFORD'S SUCCESS DEFEAT OF MRS. COLLINSON Defeating Mrs. Collinson, of Pal merston North, 5 up and 4 to play, Miss Gaisford, of Marlon, yesterday' won the Wanganui lacties’ provincial golf championship at tne Belmont links, when the tournament was concluded. Tho two semi-finals were played yes terday morning in fine weather, after rain earlier in the morning. Miss Gais ford defeated Miss Currie (Wanganui; 3 and 1 after a fine struggle, Miss Currie having been 2 up at. the turn. After that, however, she crashed and Miss Gaisford won. four holes on. end. In the other semi-Hnal Mrs. Collin son won from Mrs. Cook (Castlecliff). 3 and 2, after Mrs. Cook had bee*i two up at the fourth. Mrs. Cook won the first, but took four putts at the second. Winning the third and fourth, she was 2 up, but Mrs. Collinson won the next three in a row aud thus established a lead. They halved the eighth in 4’s and Mrs. Collinson became 2 up at the turn, when she won the ninth in 4 to 6. They halved the JOth and jltn, Mrs. Collinson winning the 12th to be 3 up. The 13th was halved and Airs. Cook won the 14th. At Long Tom both had good drives and fair seconds, but Airs. Collinson was short of the green with her third and Aliss Gaisford on, the latter winning in 5 to 6. At Terawhiti AlisS Gaisford put a beautiful tee short on the green within 12ft. of the pin, Airs. Collinson, topping hers aud holing in 5 to 3. This made Miss Gaisford « up.
