SHARP EARTHQUAKE

SAN FRANCISCO SHAKEN. SOME WINDOWS BROKEN. SAN FRANCISCO, May 16. A strong earthquake shock was felt at 3.45 a.m. to-day. A few windows were broken and shop furniture a*hd windows rattled. In Stockton, 75 miles east, and Santa Rosa, 50 miles north, the street lights were extinguished. “LARGELY UNTRUE” EARTHQUAKE REPORTS POSITION AT LOS ANGELES WELLINGTON, May .17. Only very slight damage occurred in the city of Lod Angeles, and none of the Olympic facilities was injured. The shock was : south of Los Angeles, where in various communities the total loss of life was 102 persons, and approximately 25.000,000 dollars in property damage, largely in respect to old or badlyconstructed buildings.
