THE WANGANUI SALE GOOD CLEARANCE EFFECTED Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report on yesterday’s Wan ganui sale as follows: —We had a good yarding representative of all classes of stock, over which we have to report a good free sale. Fat sheep were firm at. last week’s rates, as also were all store sheep. Last week’s cattle sale, as reported, was very dull, but today ’s market was well up to what it was a fortnight ago. The special entry on account of Mr. Geo. M. Currie were outstanding cattle, being particu larly prime and sold well above anything we have yarded recently. The three pens of heifers made £4 13s, £4 15s and £5 3s, whilst the prime cows realised £4 10s. A, heavy yarding of pigs met rather a dull sale, particularly porkers, which in many instances made little more than 3d per lb. Weaners and stores sold at late rates. THE WESTFIELD SALE BEEF ENQUIRY FIRMER. SMALLER NUMBERS YARDED. AUCKLAND, May 10. Smaller numbers of fat stock were oqered at Westfield sale. The enquiry for beef was a shade firmer and prices were unchanged. Extra choice ox sold to 19s per 1001 b, choice and prime ox 16s to 18s, just killable 13s to 15s, prime young sow and heifer beef 14s to 17s, just killable 9s to 13s. Heavy prime steers made £5 15s to £7 2s 6d, lighter prime £4 10s to £5 12s 6d, light prime £3 10s to £4 7s 6d, small and unfinished £1 10s to £3 ss, extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £4 15s to £4 17s 6d, heavy prime £3 15s to £4 10s, lighter prime £2 15s to £3 10s, other killable cows £1 10s to £2 10s. Values for sheep were firm, the yarding being slightly below last week’s numbers. Prime wethers made 12s 3d to 17s 6d, unfinished 9s to Ils 6d, prime ewes 8s 6d to 13s 6d, unfinished 2s to 8s 3d. Lambs met a brisk sale and prices were a shade firmer. Prime lambs made 8s 6d to 15s, unfinished 5s to 8s 6d. A large yarding of calves was in dull request. Runners made 20s to 445, exceptional 535. Vealers made 15s to 38s. Pigs were penned in smaller number: and met a ready sale at improved prices. Baconers made 35s to 425, porkers 14s to 325, weaners 2s 6d to 6s 6d, slips 5s to 10s, large stores 10s to 16s.
