ADVICE TO POLICEWOMEN
“DON’T ARREST MEN.” A London policewoman arrested a drunken man. and when her prisoner, an accountant, appeared at the police court and was fined, the following <lia logue occurred between her and the magistrate, Mr. Hay Halkett: Magistrate: Did you take this mar in for being drunk? Policewoman: Yes, sir; I could not help myself. Magistrate: T expressed my opinion about this some time ago. It is dangerous. There is some likelihood of you women being knocked about. Policewoman: The man was in grave danger of being run over, sir. Magistrate: Don’t take a man into custody again, if you can help it. An official of the Home Office stated that a woman police office has the same power of arrest as a policeman.
