MILITARY CAMP.

THE CENTRAL COMMAND CONFERENCE OF OFFICERS. 1 Per Press Association. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, May 10. Lieut.-Colonel G. F. Bertrand, office* commanding the Taranaki Battalion, Major A. E. Conway, N.Z.S.C., and Captain F. L. Hunt, N.Z.S.C., returned to New Plymouth yesterday after attending a conference in Waipukurau to discuss the holding of a brigade military cainp for the Central Command. Arrangements for the camp were discussed and, if these can be satisfactorily completed, the camp will bo held in February of next year. The Central Command comprises tho Wellington, Wanganui, Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki battalions. Previously each anit of the brigade has held independent campps, though this year, for purposes of convenience, the Taranaki and Wanganui battalions were encamped together at Wavcrley. During the conference a two days’ refresher course was held for commanding officers. Tho proposed camp site was inspected and a tactical course without troops, was carried out over tho ground set aside for manoeuvres. By this means officers were familiarised with the country over which they will be expected to work at tho proposed camp.

The attendance of the whole of the Central Command at the proposed camp will enable the four battalions to work as a brigade, allowing a more comprehensive scope of work than ii possible with the individual units.
