RECENT APPOINTMENTS. LONDON, March 31. Captain A.’ F. Pridham, R.N., has this week relinquished the post of Deputy Director of Naval Ocdnance, after two and a-half years’ active service; as 1D.D.N.0. and A.D.N.O. Captain G. W. T. Robertson has joined the department as Assistant Director of Naval Ordnance, receiving Captain E. R. Bent, D.S.C., who succeeds Captain Pridham. Captain Robertson was from 1928 to 1930 in command of the sloop Veronica in New Zealand. The Naval Ordnance Department is the largest of technical branches at the Admiralty, with a total staff of 223, of whom over 30 are naval or marine officers. Paymaster-Commander H. H. Simpson, R.N., from the Excellent gunnery school, is to join the aircraft carrier Eagle, now preparing for the China Station, ps accountant officer. From 1928 to 1931 Paymaster-Commander Simpson was squadron accountant officer on the New Zealand Station. Major Ormsby G. R Barnes has been appointed second in command of the 3rd Battalion, 18th Royal Garhwal Rifles, in succession to Major Thomas H. Battye, who has been appointed commandant. Major Barnes belongs to Christchurch. In 1928 he was appointed to the 3/5 Maharatta Light, Infantry, Indian Army, which was the first regiment to enter Mesopotamia in 1914 and the last to leave in 1918. About four years ago Major Barnes was in England on leave.
