KAIERAU’S FIVE TRIES

TECHNICAL OLD BOYS BEATEN KICKING OF NO AVAIL. Within a minute of play commencing, 1 Technical Old Buys were given a Tree ■ kick for a Kaierau infringement, but Brown could not goal. Another pen- i alty went against Kaierau and with ' true sportsmanship the “bank” i cheered. The whole crowd cheered I when Brown goaled.—Technical Old Boys 3; Kaierau 0. The maroons had a chance to even up with a free kick a minute later, but | Morgan could not goal. Technical Old Boys made the pace iu the next few minutes. Brown showing his speed down the wing. Kaierau forced to gain relief. The blue and whites were playing the right type of game against the.r formidable opponents, breaking quickly . amongst the bavks. Brown threw away j a chance when he elected to “pot” instead of playing Brisco into position. Brisco was unmarked at the time and Brown’s “pot” was futile. Kaierau, as the result of Morgan’s line kicking, got into Technical Old Boys’ territory. Morgan kept using the stab punt with effect and got the play to within a foot of the goal. The maroons infringed and were sent ba'ck to half way. Smashing into the maroon backs the challengers let Brown away. He sent an infield pass to Hutchinson, who made a valiant effort only to find four Kaierau men in front of him. Kaierau moved back to the attack, Osman, Morgan aud Byres combining in a lyiovc in the righthand corner. Byres crossed but (could not ground the ball and was hauled back to a five-yard serum. Kaierau were given a free kick in the centre of the field through a man standing offside. Byres, however, could not goal. Kaierau were definitely superior at this stage, aud minor lapses on their own part were holding them out. McGregor got the ball away with some purpose at last, Morgan cutting through to hand on to Davies. The last man got over the line with a tackler hanging on to him. Morgan goaled. —Kaierau 5; Technical Old Boys 3.

Hutchinson raised his side ’s hopes by breaking clear. Faced by Burgess he short-punted over his head, failed to regain on the bounce and thereby lost the chance.

The blue and white’s opened out their backs twice in quick succession, first to Inglis’ wing and then to Brisco’s. On each occasion the Kaierau defence rallied quickly and each attacking winger found four men between him and the goal.

Another try came Kaierau’s way as the result of Davies running round the blind side of the pack and catching the opposition napping. He cut out three men and transferred to McGregor, who scored. Morgan’s kick from wide out found the uprights.—Kaierau 10; Technical Old Boys 3.

Kaierau came up to the line again, and by a series of rearguard actions earned another try. McGregor broke away and was let run to 15 yards before he was blocked, Davies, in sup-

port, could not gather in a high pass, but Morgan picked up a rolling ball and sent Lockett over to score. Morgan’s kick was successful.—Kaierau 15: Technical Old Boys 3. This was the score at half-time.

The maroons proved their worth as a back team again when McGregor, Morgan and Davies handled. Morgan imade a lot of ground and sent Davies on to swerve through the defence and score under the bar. Morgan con- ! verted.—Kaierau 20; Technical Old Boys 3. I Rogers was carried off the field at this stage and the blue and white played a man short for a time. Brown 'coming into the five-eighth line and | Brisco going full-back. E. Reid, oue of the Technical Old Boys’ stalwarts, came on later and took the full-back position. Dennis went back to his old position at centre, and Brisco to the wing. Another easy score came to Kaierau and showed up Technical Old Boys’ lamentable defence. McGregor I got the ball from a ruck scrum and

| simply ran through. Morgan goaled.— Kaierau 25; Technical Old Boys 3. Reid was back at his old five-eighth position at this stage and Dennis was at full-back and Brown at centre. Brisco was carried off a little later, and was replaced by a junior. Kaierau indulged in some offside passing straight in front of their own goal, but Brown could not score from the penalty. Hutchinson marked and kicked high. Technical Old Boys’ followersup did not reach the bounce quick enough and Kaierau got relief in a five-yard scrum. A penalty went against them but again Brown could not goal. Brown made a spirited run towards the last, but could not play his wing into position. Still another free kick came Technical Old Boys’ way and from this Brown registered another failure. Kaierau infringed again but Brown’s scoring boot had evidently been lost on the racecourse a fortnight before, the game ending with the scores Kaierau 25 Technical Old Boys .... 3 Mr G.
