TO CONCLUDE TO-DAY

MEETING AT HAWERA EGMONT RACING CLUB. (By “Kestrel.”) Only light showers fell at Hawera yesterday, and indications last night were considered to be bright for to-day, when the Egmont Racing Club’s winter meeting will be concluded. The track should be in good order to-day, ns it was drying up fast before Thursday’s programme was concluded. The acceptances for to-day are very satisfactory, and the racing promises to be most interesting. Easterly and Ganpat are the newcomers in the Manawapou Hurdles, and both will be on hand for the event. Marton form points decidedly to Easterly, though Ganpat won at his first start over battens at the Stratford meeting, and 9.5 is not a burden. Perhaps Invictus may be the most dangerous opponent for Easterly. They may not all start in the Ngamutu Hack Handicap, but Fairway will be better suited by the distance than in the seven-furlong event later in the day. Beaconsfield and Arikitea also read well. Half a dozen are engaged in the Adamson Steeplechase, the field being headed by Copey, the Egmont Steeplechase winner. The topweight should again prove hard to beat, especially as he will be ridden by I. Tucker again. Of the sprinters engaged in the Mokoia Handicap, British Columbia, All Humbug and Royal Bengal should be best supported. Slippery promises to play a prominent part in the Shorts Handicap, in which Instalment and Beaconfire should also have friends. Carfex is well placed to make amends in the Davidson Handicap for his defeat on Thursday. Awaken may do best of the others. The meeting is to conclude with the Borough Hack Handicap, in which the chances of Slippery, Fairway and Arikitea make most appeal, though the first-named pair claim earlier engagements.
