WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THE TUBAKINA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Women 's Institute was held at the St. Andrew’s Hall on April 20, Mrs. V. Whittington presiding. The meeting opened with ’.he singing of the Ode to Friendship. Several apologies were received from absent members. The hostesses appointed for the May meeting arc Mesdames Dowbng, King and C. Perry. Next month Mrs. V. Whittington will give a demonstration of barbola work and there will be a competition for the best garment made from any old garment and also for a garment made from new material. All the garments are to be given to the needy of Wanganui. It was decided to donate the money received from the sale of cakes to charity.

It was proposed by Mrs. Go ven loch and seconded by Airs. Dowling that Mrs. Collins have, charge of the sab of cakes. The visitors to the sick foi the month are Mesdames W. Knox, A. Knox, Kanapu and Miss Knox. Mrs. Dowling read a very interesting report of the federation meeting at Wanganui. The rest of the afternoon was of » social nature. Songs were given by Mesdames Conder and R. J. Glasgow, which were much appreciated. The winners of the “Violet” competition were Mrs. Ilocken 1, and Mrs. Watt 2. Mrs. V. Whittington won first and second place in the flour bag competition and tied with Airs. Keohane for third place. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames R. Glasgow. A. Glasgow and F. Gabites.
