DISTRICT NURSING LEAGUE

The monthly meeting of the Wanganui District Nursing League was held recently. Those present were Mesdames Christie (in the chair), Siddells, Burnet, F. L. Peek, J. Hair, Bell, T. B. Williams, T. Warnock and T. C. Taylor. An for absence was received from Miss Kennedy. Nurse Lee reported that she had paid 317 visits, that there were .11 new cases, 7 discharged and 2 deaths. A report was given by the visitors for last month and the visitors appointed for this month were Mrs. Burnet and Mrs. Silk. It was decided to increase the comfort allowance to £3 per month, instead of present £2 10s. The nurse was instructed to purchase four hot water bottles.

The annual meeting followed and was presided over by Miss A. C. Tizard. Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The 25th annual report read by the secretary stated that the balance-sheets the funds of the League are in a healthy condition, wihch is gratifying at the present time of distress.

The year has been a very busy one. as will be realised from the fact that Nurse Lee has paid 3503 visits to homes, 126 new cases were registered, 90 were discharged, .15 sent to hospital and 13 deaths.

Nurse Lee still carries on the work of the League. Only those closely connected with its activities realise what a comfort the nurse, in her daily round, carries to the sick and aged. The usual Christmas dinner and small gift of money was given to each patient. Our thanks are due to the many kind friends w».o each year sub scribe to this fund, which gives much pleasure to our sick. Our grateful thanks are due to all. those who have helped the work of the League by their gifts and donations of money* and clothing and to the trustees of the McCarthy Trust for their donation of £3O, to the trustees of St. Paul’s Committee for the use of the room for meetings, the City C uncil for free pass on the trams for the nurse. To the auditor, Mr. Collins, to the Herald and “Chronicle” for tho assistance they have always given in furthering the work of the committee. To Nurse Lee for her faithful and sympathetic service to all the patients, and to the secretary for her interest in the League work. The annual report and balance-sheet, showing a satisfactory credit balance, were adopted. In a short address Miss Tizard spoke of the work of the League and congratulated the members and committee on the successful year they appeared to have had and said how much 1 tie work must be appreciated through the dreadful days through which wo are passing. Miss Tizard commended tho League on its work and also stressed the fact that the need of the present-day was not only the material side, but the spiritual side as well, and this, she felt, was being carried out bv the League helpers, who were doing <i!i that they could in the good work. The speaker said she would be glad to hear, through the committee, of any special cases that needed help. She hoped the next year would be as successful as the last.

Tributes were paid and vote of thanks passed to tho nurse for her faithful service. Votes of thanks were Else passed to the managers of St Paul’s Hall for the use of the rooms and to the hon. auditor. Mr. Collins, and the secretary Miss Xowconibc.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: President. Mrs. H A. Christie; committee, Mesdames F 1 . Pock. 8011, Siddells. Silk, Williams. T. C. Taylor and Miss Kennedy.
